Expanding the product lineup for Big Data

Jan 30, 2014 ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation

ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Satoshi Kikuchi, President & CEO; hereinafter "CTC") has signed a distributor agreement with MarkLogic Corporation (headquartered in Silicon Valley, California; hereinafter "MarkLogic"), the top vendor of NoSQL database platforms, and today commences to sell the MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL database platform developed by MarkLogic, and to use the platform to build systems for unstructured data analysis. This move will boost the NoSQL database*1 field and expand the product lineup for Big Data.

Background

The use of Big Data at corporations and public entities is raising expectations for business solutions. Today, 80% of business data comprises unstructured data such as business documents, images, audio and video in contrast to the structured data held in relational databases in the past. However, relational databases are not flexible and nimble enough to manage most of the unstructured data. With database technologies evolving to accumulate, store and process Big Data, the NoSQL databases for unstructured data are attracting attention.

MarkLogic Product Features

Established in 2001, MarkLogic is the top vendor of enterprise NoSQL database platforms with a track record of installation at more than 400 companies worldwide. MarkLogic is an enterprise NoSQL database that does not depend on a database structure. It integrates the sophisticated enterprise level functions required for the operating environment, semantic searches*2, and application services in a single unit.

By providing the MarkLogic Enterprise NoSQL database platform in combination with the DWH appliance products and Business Intelligence (BI) products supplied to customers in the past, CTC will provide a more appropriate Big Data platform to customers who are integrating and using a range of data.

Future Development

In the future, we will cooperate with a systems development company to expand systems development using this product. We also plan to develop collaborative solutions for Hadoop and BI products.
Since February 2013, CTC has provided the CTC BD-Navi to support system platform installations as well as consulting on data analysis and usage in a service structure that supports the use of Big Data by customers. We will continue to provide alternatives for a broader range of IT platforms and support customers in the strategic use of Big Data.

We have received the following comment from MarkLogic on the occasion of this announcement.

CTC understands that Big Data is not only about volume, speed, diversity and complexity. It is important to quickly extract useful information from multi-structured and unstructured data and to provide appropriate solutions. By introducing MarkLogic as the core of Big Data services, CTC provides an innovative solution based on enterprise NoSQL database technology. As a result, customers will be able to make efficient use of the data in their possession and to make intelligent decisions for their businesses.
