ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Satoshi Kikuchi, President & CEO; hereinafter "CTC") launches the next-generation IT infrastructure "Open Cloud Package," using Open Compute Project (OCP)*1 certified hardware which developed based on Open and Standard Technologies including OpenStack from January 2015. OCP is a community announced in April 2011 by Facebook to design and enable the delivery of the most efficient server, storage and data center hardware designs for scalable computing. CTC provides hardware sales, system integration, maintenance support, and operational support services. It aims to provide Open Cloud Package to 50 companies over a three-year period, with a minimum configuration cost of 15 million yen.

With the arrival of cloud, big data, mobile, and social, it is difficult to predict the extensions that will be required in the future at the time systems are built. At the same time, these systems requires rapid and flexible scalability. Also, with intensifying competition among rival companies, including global corporations, it is important to keep the cost of system integration down.

Open Cloud Package is a solution for next-generation IT infrastructure using OCP certified hardware and multiple Open Source Software (OSS) including OpenStack. It is suitable for customers who are analyzing big data and require IT infrastructure with high scalability to handle higher volumes of data than initial system integration, or for customers who have established new businesses in the social or mobile fields and wish to be able to change their system architecture flexible in accordance with the scale and development of their future business. Open Cloud Package offers the following features:

1. Provides open and standard technologies

The use of OCP certified hardware and OSS allows the system to be integrated at low cost, keeping the initial outlay down. What is more, by adopting open and standard technologies instead of utilizing proprietary vendor functions, functionality can be extended in the future without the restrictions of proprietary functions.

2. Provides as a package that has already properly tested

The Open Cloud Package allows to build a flexible system by supporting both virtual and bare metal*2 environment. Since system coordination between multiple OSSs has already been verified in CTC's Technical Solution Center and the Advanced Technology LAB (CTC's system verification environment), the system is built without the need to test the process of developing and verifying coordination functions between the OSSs. Further, the system coordination functions are all released as open source.

3. Rapid and flexible system scaling

Pre-setting the procedure for system scaling in advance allows to system scale automatically through applications, various scripts and Web interface. Tasks that were previously done manually by a system administrator are automated, allowing system scaling to be carried out rapidly and flexibly.

Looking ahead, the Open Cloud Package will support public cloud services and linux container environment from March 2015. Delivering Open Cloud Package will offer customers cutting-edge technology, thereby contributing to the expansion of their business.

Open Cloud Package Architecture

Open Cloud Package Architecture
  • *1 OCP : Originated with the fact that the specification designed by Facebook, Inc. to achieve the greatest efficiencies for data center server infrastructure was made open source. The project establishes the optimum hardware for the data center by incorporating requirements from the user perspective, with user companies including Facebook, Inc. as the implementing agents. CTC named the first OCP Solution Provider in Japan.
  • *2 Bare metal : Computer system or HDD that is not installed with OS or other software and does not include any data. Also used for physical system, as opposed to virtualization.
