CTC Provides CTC ESPA, the Implementation Support Service for Enterprise Networks Utilized SDN/NFV Technology

Comprehensive Support with Opening a Verification Facility, CTC ESPA Lab.

Mar 02, 2017 ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation

ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (Satoshi Kikuchi, President & CEO; headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter 'CTC') will commence offering CTC ESPA (Enterprise Simple Provisioning Architecture), the SDN*1/NFV*2 Implementation and operation support service for enterprise networks in April. At the same time, it will open the CTC ESPA Lab., which is a multivendor verification facility for SDN/NFV technology, CTC will provide SDN/NFV technology, whose main users were conventionally data center operators and major telecommunication carriers, to private-sector companies under the CTC ESPA service, aiming to achieve sales of 3 billion yen within three years.

As access environments and contents have diversified and security measures have advanced, enterprise networks have to be flexible to be able to respond rapidly to changes. SDN/NFV technology that realizes to implement network functions on the virtualization platform as software and the unified management is expected to reduce the workloads of system administrators by simplifying the work that needs to be conducted for each piece of network equipment, such as routers and firewalls.

CTC ESPA is the SDN/NFV Implementation and operation support service that supports enterprise customers throughout the IT lifecycle, from the stage of consideration of the Implementation of SDN/NFV to operation and maintenance. To begin with, CTC will provide five services according to the customers' situations and requirements, which is based on Cisco Enterprise NFV*3, the network functions virtualization solution, provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.

CTC ESPA Lab. is a facility that conducts total verifications to resolve issues including the acceleration of network integration procedures, the improvement of network operations and visibility and enabling advanced security taking advantage of SDN/NFV technology. The laboratory is also able to verify coordination with the open-source cloud infrastructure software OpenStack and a public cloud environment. Customers can bring their own devices into the laboratory to conduct verification in a real usage environment.

CTC has experience in the integration of network systems for major telecommunication carriers by utilizing SDN/NFV, and it will use the knowledge it has accumulated through the construction and operation of large-scale network systems in developing this service. CTC will remain committed to the expansion of the related services and the implementation of a fully autonomous network (self-driving network) that self-configures and self-controls by independently judging each situation.

List of CTC ESPA services

Name of service Service outline
ESPA Advisory Service
(Consulting service)
SDN/NFV pre-implementation service that evaluates the implementation effects and ROI to be generated in the customer's environment and reports the evaluation result.
ESPA POC Support Service
(Demonstration and verification support service)
SDN/NFV pre-implementation service that supports POC implementation planning and verification using real devices in the CTC ESPA laboratory or the customer's verification environment.
ESPA Construction Service
(SI service)
SDN/NFV implementation service that supports project planning, execution and construction.
ESPA Startup Service
(Education and operation outsourcing service)
SDN/NFV post-implementation service that carries out education and operation in order to turn over the operation tasks to a person in charge.
ESPA Health Management Service
(Monitoring/maintenance service)
SDN/NFV post-implementation service that monitors the operation of the implemented system and, if a failure is detected, restores the system in coordination with the maintenance support.
  • *1 SDN (Software-Defined Network): Integrated control of a network by using software.
  • *2 NFV (Network Function Virtualization): Implementation of network functions on a general-purpose server instead of dedicated hardware by virtualizing the network functions.
  • *3 Cisco Enterprise NFV: NFV solution that Cisco provides to private-sector companies. It uses software to carry out important network functions, which are provided in hardware products, drastically improving network management and operation.
