(headquartered in Koto-ku, Tokyo; Kazuki Otsuka, President & Representative Director) and ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Tatsushi Shingu, President and CEO) will conduct a demonstration experiment on “Real-Time Visualization of Taxi Stand Queue Status” at four taxi stands.
- In this demonstration experiment, information such as “real-time passenger queue status” at taxi stands of Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit, Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Exit, Shinagawa Station Konan Exit, and Shimbashi Station Shiodome Exit will be provided through the comprehensive navigation app “NAVITIME” by NAVITIME JAPAN Co., Ltd.
- Based on demonstration experiments at Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit (FY2021) and Shinagawa Station Takanawa Exit (FY2022), the needs for visualization of queue status at the multiple locations will be confirmed, and challenges for its practical use will be identified.
1. Overview of the demonstration experiment
(1) Objective
Visualize passenger queue status at taxi stands of multiple stations, and confirm changes in users' travel behaviors and plans to their destinations and alleviation of congestion or reducing waiting time at taxi stands.
(2) Experiment name
“Real-time Visualization of Taxi Stand Queue Status (FY2024)”
(3) Experiment details
- Install cameras near taxi stands to collect and analyze data.
- Provide information on taxi stand queue status via the “NAVITIME” app.
*The footage obtained by the cameras will only be used for counting the number of waiting passengers and visualizing congestion status. The video data will be immediately discarded after counting, so personal information will not be stored.
(4) Experiment locations (4 locations)
Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit, Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Exit, Shimbashi Station Shiodome Exit*, Shinagawa Station Konan Exit *Passenger queue status information at Shimbashi Station Shiodome Exit will be provided except during late-night hours.

(5) Passenger queue status information
In this demonstration experiment, in collaboration with NAVITIME JAPAN, the real-time passenger queue status at the four taxi stands can be checked via the comprehensive navigation app “NAVITIME”.

(6) Experiment period
Late November 2024 to December 27, 2024
*Launch of the experiment service will be notified on SNS and other media.
2. Demonstration experiment framework
(1) Demonstration experiment framework

This demonstration experiment will be conducted as one of the demonstration experiments of the “WaaS Co-creation Consortium” established by JR East.

(3) Past similar experiments and future plan
Similar demonstration experiments were conducted at Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit and Shinagawa Station Takanawa Exit to confirm needs for the information. The results showed that more than 80% of passengers and taxi operators expressed a wish to use the app that provides information on passenger queue status at station taxi stands, indicating a high level of interest. Additionally, we received voices expecting expansion of the service to other stations, based on which we have decided to conduct this demonstration experiment at multiple stations and taxi stands. The experiment this time will verify needs and behavior changes at the different locations from the previous experiments, as well as identify new issues not found in the past experiments. Based on the results of this demonstration experiment, we will accelerate our study for practical use of the service in our society going forward.
