Launch of "SELMID" ID Platform Service for Identity Verification using Digital Agency's Digital Authentication App

ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Tatsushi Shingu, President and CEO; hereinafter "CTC") will today start offering "SELMID" ID integration management platform service using the Digital Agency's "Digital Authentication App". This service enables secure identity verification and authentication using Individual Number Cards for various app and web services. The initial cost starts from 1.5 million yen (excluding tax), with a monthly fee starting from 500,000 yen (excluding tax). We will offer the service mainly to companies providing B2C web services and aim to achieve sales of 300 million from all SELMID businesses within one year.

There has been a need to adopt advanced authentication technologies for online authentication when using app and web services to prevent unauthorized accesses, including impersonate access. However, in some cases, the process of identity verification can become complex for secure authentication.

The new service utilizes the Japanese Public Key Infrastructure (JPKI) through the Digital Agency's "Digital Authentication App", which allows for simple and secure authentication using Individual Number Cards, for identity verification by a public third-party organization. Use of SELMID, our ID platform cloud service for B2C that supports the "Digital Authentication App," allows app and web services providers to build complex and advanced authentication and ID connection functions in a short period by simply following the SELMID templates, without having to develop them from scratch.

In addition, SELMID can be utilized also for existing services that use IDs and passwords for login, enabling more secure identity verification using Individual Number Cards. By using the Digital Authentication App to read the four basic identifiers (name, postal address, date of birth, gender) stored in the IC chip of Individual Number Card, more accurate attribute information can be used for app and web services without placing any burden on their users.

CTC has been providing SELMID since 2018, and it has been used by many educational institutions and private enterprises as an IDaaS (Identity as a Service) with account management and authentication functions for students and member service users.

Going forward, we will continue to expand SELMID functions for digital ID and digital authentication, contributing to realization of a secure digital society by providing mechanisms to improve reliability of exchanged data.
